ON #FASHION REPORTING
#NYFW POST MORTEM
Parenthèse. At #Bocconi, the professor drew a picture of a dress, then wrote the word #dress and said: “Listen up. You either say this,” pointing to the word #dress , “or you can show this,” pointing to the picture of the dress. “But you don’t do this,” he said, pointing to a picture of a #dress with the word #dress beneath it. “Because this is treating your audience like a moron. And they deserve better.” In other words, you can show or tell, but don’t do both. Don’t treat readers like they’re stupid. This is the first rule of #fashion journalism. Second one is respect. Writing, reporting, curating #content don’t happen in a vacuum. Respecting your readers and underst anding your responsibilities as a writer for the readers AND the designers is key. Runway s tories don’t just tell you what you want to fashion. Runway s tories provoke {thank you for your compliment dear @IconAccidental}. #Designers make you think. And so should their collections. À bon entendeur ..
