The #Abaya is known by various names but serve the same purpose, which is to cover. Contemporary models are usually caftans, cut from light, flowing fabrics like crepe, georgette, and chiffon.

Women’s bodies belong to them, not to any entitled political, cultural or ideological intelligentsia like Laurence Rossignol, the French Minister of Women’s Rights who called @DolceGabbana and @Mark andSpencer “irresponsibles for promoting l’enfermement du corps des femmes” as well as #PierreBergé, who forget to mention the Russian #YSL collection, an homage to the #Babushkas. Was that a bad collection ? of course not. Did Yves cage the women in his tuxe dos ? Of course not. It was to be worn without that Esprit Suffragettes, a big nuance. So let’s not get entangled here in western obnoxiousness.

I have seen gorgeous women in a sari, a skirt or an abaya. They exuded grace and felinity because they embraced their own femini-identity. Not imposed on them by society. The distinction by #Rossignol and #Bergé did not insist on the social strata of women controlled by men through money. These women are not travelling worlwide or shopping in #Dubai, #Jeddah, #KuwaitCity #AbuDhabi malls as well as the @Harrods, @Sacks and @L andmarkHK. They are oppressed women. To be protected. To be freed. To be empowered. But they are not who the fashion houses are targeting for their every days, folklores and beliefs. Now, fashion wise, these modern reinterpretations of the traditional robe-like dresses, worn by some women in parts of the Muslim world including in North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula are already a vic tory. Colors and prints are everywhere in the Arab Muslim wardrobes. Abayat or not.

I embrace the beauty of these women in their whole not to stare at a sexualized fashion able objects. The reverse is opinion able too. Being dévoilée can be démodé. I don’t like @MileyCirus style but I have no say on her choosing it.

That explosive belt ruined the outfit and the dignity of every one of us.
