Paris | Hedi Slimane Aujourd’Yves Saint Laurent
Hedi Slimane born July 5, 1968 in Paris is the son of a Tunisian accountant and an Italian seamstress. His first ambition was to become a journalist. After a year of literature classes, he applied for a his tory of art course at the Ecole du Louvre in 1992, and went on to assist Jean-Jacques Picart, co-founder of Christian Lacroix haute couture. Five years later, he was leading the ready- to-wear design team at Yves Saint Laurent and in 2000, he joined Dior as creative direc tor of Dior Homme. During this time, Hedi Slimane took pictures that were published in two books: Stage in 2004, and Lon don Birth Of A Cult in 2006, featuring some of his favorite subjects: rock i dols, the indie scene and Pete Doherty. In 2007, Hedi Slimane left Dior Homme and became a full time pho tographer. In 2011, he published Anthology of a Decade, an anthology book which contains his pho tographic works from the 2000s. In March 2012, he was named creative direc tor of Yves Saint Laurent, and a few weeks later he announced his plans to rename the ready- to-wear line to Saint-Laurent Paris in January 2013, paying homage to the first br and the designer Yves Saint Laurent launched in 1966: Saint-Laurent Rive Gauche. The designer is set to present his first collection for the Paris fashion house during Spring/Summer 2012-2013 Fashion Week in September 2012.
