#WalterAlbini died in #Milan at the age of forty-two, 1983. In 1957 the inven tor of the #TotalLook enrolled in the Istitu to d’#Arte, #Disegno e #Moda in #Turin, the only male student admitted to the all-girls school. In #Paris, where he remained from 1961 to 1965, Albini met #Chanel—a designer he admired throughout his life and to whom he dedicated his 1975 haute couture show in #Rome. He was inspired by the importance @Chanelofficial gave to freeing the woman’s body, to mixing and coordinating different pieces, and to accessorizing. While still in #Paris he became friends with #MariucciM andelli, who started the @Kriziaofficial line. After Albini’s return to Italy, he worked for three years (1965-1968) designing sweaters for #Krizia. Young @KarlLagerfeld was also working for Krizia in this period. Albini selected fabrics and designs for @Etro_official. It was Albini who first used music in place of an announcer during fashion shows [@MichelGaubert]. He also conceived the idea of grouping advertising pages in fashion magazines . His love of #fashion went mano a mano with his interest in traveling to #Asia and #Africa— particularly #India and #Tunisia. He bought apartments in his favorite cities, one on the Gr and Canal in #Venice, another on #PiazzaBorromeo in #Milan, and a third in 1971, after the success of his last catwalk show, in #SidiBouSaid: “an #Arab house near the sea, but high on a hill; a house that finally has no telephone, with the smells and colors of #NorthAfrica, which can’t be found anywhere else in the world.”. His Andalusian style villa was set around a large central patio which is covered by an awning. The walls are white, the win dow and door fixtures are blue, with fake win dows made of mirrors framed by antique sepia colour tiles. Inside, the walls are decorated with black and white Spanish tiles that also cover the bases of the beds and couches. The latter are upholstered in a black and white striped #Etro fabric, designed by Albini himself. Large zebra skin rugs lie on the wicker floor. Gus to, enchanted.
