#METKAWAKUBO

The @MetCostumeInstitute’s spring 2017 exhibition @MetMuseum examines the work of #Japanese fashion designer #ReiKawakubo, known for her avant-garde designs and ability to challenge conventional notions of beauty, good taste, and fashionability. The thematic show features approximately 140 examples of Kawakubo’s womenswear for @CommedesGarçons dating from the early 1980s to her most recent collection. The galleries illustrate the designer’s revolutionary experiments in “in-betweenness"—the space between boundaries. Objects are organized in to nine aesthetic expressions of interstitiality in Kawakubo’s work: Absence/Presence, Design/Not Design, Fashion/Anti-Fashion, Model/Multiple, Then/Now, High/Low, Self/Other, Object/Subject, and Clothes/Not Clothes. Kawakubo breaks down the imaginary walls between these dualisms, exposing their artificiality and arbitrariness. In Ancient Greek, frontière is said to be .. horizon (ὁρίζω). To the 9 ladies of yesterday @MetGala, we deemed worth of #Kawakubo’ esprit sans frontières, independent even within classic or avant-garde canons, but fiercely independent. Michèle Lamy @LaLaMichMich wrote a wonderful essay on Rei’s work. 34 years, after @dvDianaVreel and celebrated #YvesSaintLaurent de son vivant, cura tor #AndrewBol ton heightened the rebellion and by ricochet the whole body of Japanese design in Fashion with this marvellous exhibition at The #MetMuseum. L’esprit de nuance est une attitude d’humilité à l’égard de sa propre pensée qu’on peut s’aimer avec une différence d’âges, couleurs, religions ou cultures à travers les vêtements. "L’artiste distingue là où le conquérant nivelle.” wrote Albert Camus in 1948. The question is always the same: how do you continually create things that have never been seeked before? Kei’s feminist démodéfes to is the key to her legacybetween rhe toric, and rhythmic. 愛してる @ReiKawakubo1942 artiste conquérante ! #Avantgarde is both being your own self and owning your own being.
