Leather Forever | Hermès 175 years

A unique Leather Forever Hermes exhibition Lon don event takes place during spring 2012 and explores the 175 year his tory and fascination with creating designer objects from leather.

Leather Forever Hermes exhibition Lon don event takes place from Tuesday 8th – Sunday 27th May 2012 in the Royal Academy of Art’s sister space, 6 Burling ton Gardens. Entrance is free.

Founded by Thiery Hermes in 1837, the Parisian fashion house has a long established reputation for working with leather to create harnesses and saddles, before later moving on to bags, shoes, purses, belts and other fashionable leather items, many of which will be on show in the Leather Forever Hermes exhibition. Lon don fashion fans will be able to learn more about the his tory of the company, through six generations of artisan crafts, which has enabled them to keep on making the same objects with the same skill and dedication since the business began.

The art of fashion

Not only will many iconic leather designs be on show in the exhibition, but visi tors to 6 Burling ton Gardens are also able to see how several of the products are actually created. With various different craftspeople from the workshops in Paris on site at the Leather Forever Hermes exhibition, you’ll be able to see precisely how skilled they are in producing these stylish creations.

As well as spanning the his tory of the company and presenting products from those commissioned by the Duke of Windsor up to the present day, those inspired by the leather goods on show could end up taking home a little piece of the Leather Forever Hermes exhibition.
