#MARTINMARGIELA
_
The Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela started @MaisonMargiela in 1988, with #JennyMeirens. In @WeMargiela, #Meirens and members of the creative team openly discuss the creative processes, the approach and the fashion house’s unusual philosophy.
As the his tory of the house is traced parallel to the creative development and economic success of Maison Martin Margiela, the film explores notions of #creativity, #authorship, and #financialreturn in our #neoliberal times. However, the insights of #WeMargiela are not quite self-evident. Interviews reveal that many, now iconic, images and ideas of the Maison came in to being by coincidence and intuition, not by preconceived concepts. The house was run based on strong gut-feelings and a deep commitment to taking creative risks.
“Our main interest was the whole notion of a shared creative process and group dynamics within creative communities. It is something that we as a creative group of filmmakers have to deal with and also, around us we noticed that more and more, young and creative people
were interested in working in groups more than striving for personal fame. Though we underst and the longing to work in a group, we are wary about how much this is a romantic notion, an economic solution and whether a creative process can be democratic at all.” The film investigates the legacy of Maison Martin Margiela and its relevance for #fashion and authorship today.
