Dries Van Noten have genuine tastes to express. Dries Van Noten studies nature attentively, so as to know how to express these tastes. Dries Van Noten sympathises with what is direct and serious and heartfelt in Art, to the exclusion of what is conventional and self-celebratory. Most indispensable of all, Dries Van Noten produces thoroughly clothes and styles.

His Spring Summer 2015 was deliberately non-dogmatic, since he has chosen to emphasize individual outfits rather than a collection per se. He clearly reworked the subject of the Quattrocento Italian art in light layers several times, making significant changes to its details until he was fully satisfied with the result: abundant satin tailored trousers, shorts, fuzzy knits, sequin tops, watercolor florals, printed semi-sheer silks, intense earthy colours, deerskin bags and complex compositions of brocade coats and bomber jackets.

Then the elegiac finale inspired by Sir John Everett Millais’ Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, singing while floating in a river just before she drowns.

1852 is the new 2014 ..
