PARIS | TITANE LUNE | ROLAND MOURET

Stable director Lee Ford has made the first film for French fashion designer Roland Mouret. Mouret, best known for his iconic ‘Galaxy’ dress worn by the likes of Rachel Weisz, Cameron Diaz and Carey Mulligan is portrayed in the surreal film by a young boy.

Mouret himself was first inspired to be a dressmaker when as a boy he would watch his butcher father work. He has also credited his father’s technique of folding over his apron – to cover the blood stains and reveal a clean aspect – as a big influence in his dress designs which often feature folding of fabric in a similar manner.

The film features brit screen actor Geoff Bell as the Butcher, and accomplished stage actress Leanne Best. Ford noted “Roland was very keen from the start to make a non-fashion fashion film, using actors rather than models.

As a departure from the majority of ‘fashion films’, Mouret’s clothes barely feature, instead we see how the designer was first inspired to learn the craft, that has seen him win numerous awards including Fashion Designer of the year.

The only time we see a dress is on a woman in a grand mansion who seems to be linked to the butcher scene by some unknown dark force ..
