MILANO | MODA DONA P|E_14 | ETRO

The Paisley pattern is a constant point of inspiration for Etro. The pattern is an ancient decorative feature originally from Mesopotamia where it symbolized the shoot of the date palm which represented the tree of life.

The pattern was much used on precious h and-woven Indian fabrics until it later was a dopted for the use on shawls of nineteenth-century women.

Etro has a collection of one hundred and fifty cashmere design shawls dating from 1810 to 1880. The collection lead to the inspiration of the Paisley pattern, commonly used in the Etro collections from 1984 to .. today’s Spring Summer 2014.

Beautiful nonchalance, elegantly wasted.

Inspired by the exotic blooms of In do-China and the precious metal work of the Ot toman Empire. Playing with scale: a large dahlia flower diffuses in to an explosion of smaller blooms. Draped sarong skirts, cute below the knee, reveal a hidden construction.

Opulent sheer canvases are recreated on dresses, coats and neck scarves. The new trousers are wide legged and cropped. Lemon, coral, mint, lavender and sea blue are mixed effortlessly with neutrals like sage, khaki and ivory.

A rigorously feminine touch is added with h and-dyed silk devoré, billowing silk georgette and micro-sequins dusted over Paisley dresses. Metal is knitted with suede, whilst cot ton and satin ribbons embellish wide striped sweaters. Asymmetrical prints have an air of imperfection: metal trims and enameled metal mesh blend in to the pattern. H andbags feature dusty pastel patchworks of matte python and stingray, complete with the same metal trim.

Intricate patchworks of Paisley printed silk, jacquard lurex and metal mesh make a strong statement.

Now to my delight, Etro SS 2014 was not and only .. Paisley’s.

Boundaries are blurred between formality and informality, creating a new, relaxed attitude.

Veronica Etro, women’s creative direc tor (her brother Kean is the men’s) glowed her Donna by putting her mood & mode dans les poches ..

Delectably, il Palazzo del Ghiaccio (Castle of Ice. Palais des Glaces) in Milan .. melted from such exoticism, femininity and luxury.

The Etro Woman SS 14 collection was all about deconstructed elegance ..
