Montreal to Antwerp | Devon Halfnight LeFlufy

Exploring the hybrid iconography of Los Angeles .. prints & paintings with Canadian Artist Brian Kokoska and eye to wear with Designer Serge Bracké chez theo for a North Americana Street Luxe couture..

In 2009 Canada-native Devon Halfnight LeFlufy decided to leave his Montréal hometown to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion design at the Fashion Department of the Antwerp Academy. That was after graduating from the Technical Fashion DesignWomen’s Wear course at LaSalle College, Montreal and getting some work experience.

Last june at SHOW2013, the Antwerp Fashion Academie Department’s annual catwalk show, the Devon presented his graduation collection ‘True Believer’, inspired by the City of Angels. His men’s collection ‘True believer’ is provocative à la Walter Van Beirendonck probably one of Devon’s mentors alongside with his fascination of LA: the idealism, the obsession with celebrity and the idolatry, such a real and a fake city, all at the same time.

From the masks and painted jackets and prints, he made with artist Brian Kokoska (whom he met in New York while interning), to the laser cut and python jackets and accessories.

“the collection combines the celebrity worship and teenage sensualité of LA with Kokoska’s surreal world of harsh physicality and expressiveness, creating an onslaught of freshness which is an aesthetic as much as a mind state, as it elicits the intangible thrill of adolescent discovery.”

Last, it is a pity though because the glasses Devon designed with Serge Bracké at Theo Eyewear will not be going into production…Well, sometimes even the contemplé fulfills ..

September 2013, Devon Halfnight LeFlufy will be available at Opening Ceremony, NYC, LA and London.
