Amsterdam.e | JANTAMINIAU
Fashion designer Jan Taminiau is a fabric and technology freak.
He loves to mix unexpected materials in his designs; for example, coarse linen mailbags with the coloured stripes of the Dutch flag processed in evening dresses. Taminiau comes from a family of antique dealers, decora tors and designers. This also forms the basis for his love of traditional production methods, antique materials and the ongoing quest for finding the right form and aesthetic. The designer from Tilburg has built up a reputation in the Netherl ands with his poetic creations of tulle clouds.
Jan Taminiau was the only Dutch designer who was given permission to do a fashion show during the International Couture Week in Paris last year.
“One of my most important sources of inspiration is my own worldview. The main sources of inspiration for my work are the romantic and nostalgic aspects of life: it can vary from an old mailbag to a piece of technologically woven rope. The basis of my work is always the same: I am always translating the asymmetrical mirror of life. I place everything I do in daily life in my own personal context. This is reflected in my work, in the romantic and nostalgic themes that emerge in every new collection, and my love for technology and craftsmanship. Even though this concept is manifested differently in each new collection, the basis always remains the same. The basis is dogmatic, the process is organic.”
