“I think most people would say that doing Saint Laurent is one of the most difficult challenges in the industry,” Mr. Pilati said back in 2006, at the helm of the YSL. “It’s a brand that has to be very personal. I mean, you have to put a lot of yourself in it. And then you are compared to a genius. Then you have to match his success. Then you have to capture French culture and the Parisian mentality. With Saint Laurent you really need to be a designer.”
