Billionaire, Opel heir, Brigitte Bar dot’s third husb and, philanthropist and renowned art collec tor Gunter Sachs shot himself in the head in Gstaad, Switzerl and, the way of his Nazi father Willy did. Playboy Sachs left a note saying, “The loss of mental control over my life was an undignified condition which I decided to counter decisively.”. He couldn’t live with a brain disease that was affecting his memory. Alzheimer’s. “It’s not every day that a man drops a tonne of roses in your yard,” Bar dot later wrote. Gunter will posthumously drop one of the most unbelievable art collection in the world.
The collection comprises close to 300 pieces by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, René Magritte, Salva dor Dalí, Yves Klein, Jean Fautrier, César, Yves Tanguy, Max Ernst, Martial Raysse, Diego Giacometti, Mel Ramos, Allen Jones or Arman and other major artists. Among the items that will be offered are two portraits of Brigitte Bar dot, who was Sachs’ second wife. One portrait is a silkscreen by Warhol and the other is a Richard Ave don pho tograph of the French screen siren that served as an inspiration for Warhol’s portrait. The Sotheby’s auction will include items from Sachs’ furniture collection. The sale is set to take place at Sotheby’s Lon don gallery May 22 and 23, expecting to bring in more than $31 million.
