niOka

_is a fashion label on the scene since 2008. niOka’s conceptual design is inspired by ‘the ugly and boring side of life’, as the designer puts it. niOka observes the insignificant details, mainly overlooked by others. In niOka’s world the lead s tory revolves around the colours and the patterns, upgraded by shapes. niOka’s design is defined as pompous minimalism, combining avant-garde simplicity with artistic craftsmanship, tender provocation and timelessness.

Biography

Nika Ravnik, Slovenian born in 1981, grew up in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. In 2008, she graduated in Fashion and Textile Design from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering at University of Ljubljana. As a visi tor student, she studied Fashion Design at Designskolen Kolding in Denmark, where she presented her final student collection at Copenhagen Fashion Week SS08. In 2009 she did working experience at the label Chocolate City in Melbourne, Australia. As a part of design team, they presented the AW09 collection at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. In 2009 she was awarded by Goethe – Institut as a Young Talented Designer. In February 2010 presented the AW 10/11 collection at A La Mode event of Emerging and Independent Designers, part of Lon don Fashion Week. She has been participating at many art projects, exhibitions and fashion events, home and abroad. Nika works as a freelance designer, stylist and costumographer. From 2008 she has been working on her own fashion label niOka.
